The AirAsia X flight from Perth to Kuala Lumpur offers a surprisingly comfortable and efficient experience, especially for a low-cost carrier. The journey is filled with thoughtful touches and conveniences that elevate the overall experience.
Starting with the check-in process, is a breeze, particularly if you opt for online check-in. This savvy choice speeds up the process, allowing for a quick and easy bag drop at the airport. It’s a time-saver and reduces the usual pre-flight stress. Additionally, the AirAsia mobile app keeps you updated with real-time notifications. For instance, when there was a last-minute change in the boarding gate and when my luggage was loaded onto the aircraft, I received prompt alerts on my phone, which was incredibly handy.
Choosing (and paying $110) for a ‘hot seat’ on AirAsia X is a really smart move for those seeking extra legroom. These seats provide much-needed space for stretching out, although the tray tables here could be sturdier. Despite this minor drawback, the additional legroom is highly appreciated on a long flight.
One of the perks of the hot seat is Zone 1 boarding, allowing early access to the aircraft. This is a significant convenience, helping you settle in without the hustle and bustle of standard boarding.
The ‘bid for an upgrade’ feature, while not always successful, as in my case, adds an element of excitement to the pre-flight experience. It offers a chance for a more luxurious journey with a flatbed seat, appealing to those looking for extra comfort.
The in-flight experience is enhanced by the crew’s friendly and welcoming demeanour. Service is efficient, with pre-ordered meals served first and a short wait for the meal trolley to return. The food and drink selection is diverse and reasonably priced.
However, one downside is the lack of Wi-Fi availability onboard. But this is somewhat mitigated by the availability of power points for charging devices (with Malaysian outlets) which is a thoughtful addition for travellers needing to stay connected.
The aircraft itself is modern and well-maintained, contributing to a comfortable and reassuring environment. Our flight departed on time, which is always a relief for travellers with connecting plans or tight schedules.
When I felt a bit cold during the flight, blankets were available to rent at a small cost. It’s a small but significant comfort.
Overall, flying with AirAsia from Perth to Kuala Lumpur is a commendable experience. For a low-cost carrier, the service and amenities offered are impressive. The balance of affordability and comfort makes it a great choice for budget-conscious travellers. The airline’s commitment to customer satisfaction is evident, and I would fly with them again.
