Air India has released a fresh brand identity, updated aircraft livery and a program to completely refurbish the interiors of its legacy fleet of 43 widebody aircraft to the tune of $400 billion USD mid-2024.
The story behind the new livery
The redesigned appearance takes the iconic Indian window shape, historically associated with Air India, and transforms it into a golden window frame. This frame embodies the concept of a 'Window of Possibilities.'
The airline's new emblem, named 'The Vista,' draws inspiration from the peak of the golden window frame. It signifies boundless opportunities, progressiveness, and the airline's confident and forward-looking vision for the future.
The new aircraft livery showcases a color palette of deep red, aubergine, and gold highlights, complemented by a pattern inspired by the chakra. It also incorporates a specially crafted typeface called 'Air India Sans.'
Starting from December 2023, travelers will gradually encounter the new logo throughout their journey, coinciding with the introduction of Air India’s first Airbus A350 into the fleet, adorned with the new livery.
Tata Group took control of loss-making Air India in January 2022 with what appears to be great success as earlier this year Air India placed orders for 470 aircraft.

What to expect from the cabin makeover?
The Air India refurbishment will include the installation of brand-new seats in every cabin, new inflight entertainment systems, and inflight Wi-Fi internet connectivity. The airline aims to fly an entirely new long-haul fleet by the end of 2026. There will also be a phased launch of a new Air India website, mobile app and loyalty program.
