He started his career in the RAF in 1952 and during his four years of service was an operational fighter squadron pilot, flying Meteors and was also a member of the Fighter Command formation aerobatic team. In 1956 he joined BOAC and joined the Concorde fleet in 1976. His many achievements with the introduction of the Concorde were recognized in 1978 when he was awarded the Britannia Trophy.
