Emirates is expected to order more Boeing 777X aircraft at this week’s Dubai Air Show according to sources close to the discussions.

The order would be a major boost to the 777X program which has been slowed by new certification regulations and processes and is some years behind its original delivery target of 2020.

Emirates is the biggest customer for the 777X with 115 on firm order but that is down on its original order of 150 placed 10 years ago at the 2013 Dubai Air Show.

At that show Boeing launched the 777X, now the 777-9, 777-8 and 777-8 Ffreighter with orders for 259 which was at the time the largest aircraft launch by dollar value ($95 billion) with Emirates ordering 150, Qatar Airways 50, and Etihad Airways 25 plus Lufthansa’s commitment for 34 aircraft.

The commitments for the 777 program now stand at 363 from 12 customers.

It is likely that Emirates will at least bring its commitment back to the original 150 and will also order the freighter version. Its current order is for 80 777-9s and 35 777-8s.

Emirates has also been linked to the 777-10X which would be a small stretch to accommodate another 40 passengers.

The 777X is now on track for certification and delivery early in 2025.

According to various media reports as part of the deal, Emiarte’s order for 30 787s may be transferred to, regional affiliate FlyDubai. Those are to be delivered from 2025.

Emirates is also expected to place a large order for Airbus for its A350-1000. The airline has 50 of the smaller A350-900 on order for delivery from 2024.

Airlineratings.com is packed with information about air travel and answers questions that many of us may have thought of, but didn’t know who to ask. Well, now you do!

Airlineratings.com was developed to provide everyone in the world with a one-stop shop for everything related to airlines, formed by a team of aviation editors, who have forensically researched nearly every airline in the world.

Our rating system is rated from one to seven stars on safety – with seven being the highest ranking. Within each airline, you will find the country of origin, airline code, booking URL and seat map information. The rating system takes into account a number of different factors related to audits from aviation’s governing bodies, lead associations as well as the airline’s own safety data. Every airline has a safety rating breakdown so you can see exactly how they rate.

Over 230 of the airlines on the site that carry 99 per cent of the world’s passengers have a product rating. Given that low-cost, regional and full-service carriers are so different we have constructed a different rating system for each which can be found within each airline.
