Air India Product Rating
4.5/7
Air India’s onboard product experience is steadily improving under Tata Group’s ownership, though it remains inconsistent across aircraft. In terms of food, the airline offers complimentary hot meals in all classes on international flights and most domestic routes. Economy passengers typically receive a standard Indian meal with a main dish, side, dessert, and beverage. In Business and First Class, the meals are more refined, with multi-course service and a mix of Indian and international options. Recent upgrades have focused on better presentation and more premium ingredients.
In-flight entertainment varies widely depending on the aircraft. Many of Air India’s older wide-body jets still use outdated seatback screens with limited content, slow interfaces, and a smaller selection of international titles. However, the newer A350s and retrofitted 777s offer a much better experience with modern touchscreen systems and expanded movie and TV libraries. Most narrow-body aircraft, used on domestic and short-haul routes, have no personal screens at all.
Currently, Air India does not offer Wi-Fi on any of its flights. That is expected to change, with connectivity planned for newly delivered long-haul aircraft and part of the airline’s broader fleet modernization program. As of now, passengers must rely on offline entertainment or pre-downloaded content for connectivity during the flight.
Overall, while improvements are visible—particularly in premium cabins and on newer aircraft—the onboard experience can still feel dated in parts of the fleet. The direction is positive, but not all passengers are seeing the benefits just yet.
